It was a rider from Q36.5
who first slipped on the wet roads. The riders behind him had no chance: he took his team leader Pidcock with him, and behind them was the entire Visma team.
Jonas Vingegaard hit the asphalt, but he was able to get back on his bike quickly. Axel Zingle was less fortunate: the Frenchman remained on the ground for a long time and was immediately checked, but he was able to get back on his bike later. Tim van Dijke (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) was also severely injured.
We quickly got the impression that Vingegaard was okay: he gave us a thumbs up. He was brought back to the peloton by Victor Campenaerts, who was also involved in the crash. Other riders who crashed were Carlos Canal, Michel Hessmann (Movistar), Patrick Eddy (Picnic PostNL), and Marcel CamprubĆ (Q36.5).
