Isaac del Toro and Tadej Pogačar certainly earned some points with their partners, the women’s peloton and cycling fans this week. The two UAE Team Emirates-XRG leaders decided to head to Nice and the surrounding area for the Tour de France Femmes, where they could cheer on their partners. Friday and Saturday had already produced some great footage, but what happened on Sunday was even better.

Del Toro has been in a long-term relationship with Romina Hinojosa, who rides for Lotto-Intermarché. The 23-year-old Mexican crossed the finish line in Nice completely exhausted on Sunday, eventually completing the Tour de France Femmes second-last in the general classification. Along the way, she had already accepted some welcome cooling assistance from her Isaac.

After helping out during the race, Del Toro headed to the seafront, where the riders continued towards their team buses after crossing the finish line. The rider who finished third in the men’s Tour de France, while also winning the white young rider’s jersey, was there to welcome Romina, who was visibly relieved to have reached the end of the race. It was a little awkward, perhaps, with a camera following their every move. Later that evening, there was time for pizza.

Pogačar steals the show in Sporza video

Pogačar was also in Nice for the final weekend of the Tour de France Femmes. The Slovenian Tour de France winner had already been spotted at the roadside on Friday, supporting his fiancée Urška Žigart on Mont Ventoux. He had already attracted plenty of attention there with a shirt carrying the letters ‘HAB’ — short for ‘Husbands and Boyfriends’.
That, however, was not even Pogačar’s highlight of the weekend. Fresh from becoming a joint record holder with five overall Tour de France victories, he happily played along for a hilarious video with Sporza. In the sketch, the presenter pretended not to recognise Pogačar, resulting in some excellent footage.
“I’m a lucky guy,” Pogačar says at one point while talking about being Žigart’s fiancé. “I ride with her sometimes and she drops me sometimes, so I just let her go.” The joke continues from there, with Pogi earning a definite 10 out of 10 for his acting skills.
Žigart, meanwhile, finished the Tour de France Femmes in 48th place overall and took 19th in the final stage. The Slovenian had faced a race against time simply to make the start of the Tour after breaking her jaw in a crash at the Tour de Suisse. Given that difficult build-up, challenging for the major results was never really a realistic prospect.
