Team manager Sanne Cant was furious when she spoke into the Sporza microphone and already discussed next steps.

Schreiber was disqualified after small deviation from her line
Schreiber was incredibly strong at the European Championships on Saturday and seemed poised to take the win after a two-way sprint against Lucinda Brand. However, after a very long deliberation, the jury ruled that Schreiber had deviated slightly from her line at a certain point during her sprint, and so Brand was awarded the title.

Schreiber, who was disappointed, did not go up on the podium to receive her silver medal, but she did speak in the mixed zone. She called her disqualification “disrespectful” and “unfair,” and said of Brand: “Lucinda said I hadn’t done anything wrong, because she wouldn’t have been able to pass me anyway.”

Sanne Cant on Marie Schreiber's disqualification at European Championships
We didn't see Schreiber again after the mixed zone, but team manager Cant did speak to the Belgian media. Fire was practically shooting from the eyes of the former world cyclocross champion. She called the jury's decision "the most ridiculous reaction" and added, "I've never experienced anything like this before."

According to Cant, the fact that Schreiber briefly veered to the left during a "sprint of the dying swans" and thus momentarily entered Brand's lane was a reason to demote her protégé. She pointed to a much more dangerous sprint on the road and, by her own account, received no explanation from the UCI president.
"It's anyone's guess what he saw, but maybe he should try sprinting on a cyclocross bike with just one bar in the tires," said a feisty Cant, who, like Schreiber, claims that when your heart rate is 190 and after an hour of cyclocross riding, you rarely sprint completely upright.

Schreiber's Team Plans to Challenge the UCI's Decision
According to Cant, Brand had plenty of room to pass, something the Dutch skater herself also acknowledged afterward. The winner seemed almost guilty about being the European champion and said, “I didn’t ask for a review or anything".
Cant is still going to request that review, because she wants to do everything she can to get the decision overturned. It was also the Belgian who urged Schreiber not to go up on the podium. “I wouldn’t let her do that, because you shouldn’t accept a medal you don’t deserve.”
With all due respect to Lucinda Brand, she’ll have to wait and see if she can defend her European title. “Marie was the winner today—Lucinda even told her that herself,” said Cant, who called the whole situation “absurd” and announced, “We’re not going to let this go.”
