Alessio Magagnotti won the third stage of the Lidl Deutschland Tour. The stage from Schwäbisch Hall to Offenbach an der Queich—a 197-kilometer ride—was right up the alley of the fast riders, and that’s exactly how it played out.

The first half of Friday’s stage still featured plenty of elevation gain, and with a climb of just over a kilometer to Juxkopf, there were even mountain points up for grabs. Early on, three riders launched an attack: Ben Felix Jochum, Ole Theiler, and Álvaro Sagrado.
Their lead grew to a maximum of about two and a half minutes, but the sprinter teams remained in control. Sagrado racked up the most points along the way by winning the only mountain sprint and both intermediate sprints. Theiler still did well with his third-place finish in the mountain sprint, as the point he earned there was enough to take the lead in the mountains classification.

After the opening phase and two intermediate sprints, the course became increasingly flat, allowing the fast riders to sense their opportunity. In the pouring rain, Soudal Quick-Step and UAE Emirates-XRG took charge of the peloton, and we saw the lead group’s advantage steadily shrink.
With 31 kilometers to go, the breakaway by Jochum, Theiler, and Sagrado had already come to an end, and the entire peloton began the run-up to the bonus sprint, where Isaac del Toro picked up 3 seconds. In the bunch sprint, it wasn’t top favorite Magnier who was the fastest; surprisingly, it was Magagnotti who took the win.
