Will Paul Seixas ride the Giro d'Italia in 2027?
The 2027 Giro d'Italia will be tough right from the start
The Giro begins on May 8 in Trieste, with both the start and finish there. The final stage is one for punchers, with a finish at the bottom.
The organisers have also planned challenging finishes for Stages 2 and 3. On Day 2, we’ll start from Ljubljana, Slovenia, and finish in Capodistria, with another short climb in the final stretch. On Day 3, the finish line is in Possagno after a climb.
The first of what are, on paper, six sprint opportunities comes on Day 4 at the Marco Simoncelli Circuit.
In the fifth stage, we’ll face some tough climbing early on—as is traditional in the Giro—with a mountain stage to Sarnano-Sassotetto.
Filottrano serves as the starting point, in honor of the late Michele Scarponi. Stage 6 offers a sprint opportunity, and Stage 7 features an individual time trial with an uphill finish.

The second week of the 2027 Giro starts with a bang
After the traditional Naples stage on Day 8, we’ll finish the first week with an uphill finish at Monte Livata. The second week kicks off immediately with 3,600 meters of climbing to Norcia, but on Stage 11, the sprinters will get a third chance on the Mugello circuit.
In Tuscany, we’ll finish uphill in Zeri, give the sprinters another chance in Reggio Emilia, and wrap things up with a mountain stage to Valtorta (4,900 meters of elevation gain) and a second time trial of 37.3 kilometers between Monza and Milan.

The real fun of the 2027 Giro d'Italia is saved for the third week
As always, things will get tough in northern Italy during the third week. Just imagine a 192-kilometer stage to Aprica, with 5,700 (!) meters of elevation gain.
We’ll tackle the Mortirolo twice and also cross the Gavia. After a stage with a sprint finish, there’s an uphill finish in Madonna di Campiglio, followed by an opportunity for breakaway riders on the way to Sacile. Stage 20 then offers the climax with a finish on Monte Zoncolan. We’ll wrap things up with a sprint finish in Rome.
This brings the total number of sprint opportunities, hill climbs, mountain stages, and individual time trials to 6, 8, 5, and 2, respectively.
