Thibau Nys has checked in again. The 23-year-old Belgian went under the knife in March after a so-called
'cyclist's knee' kept causing the cyclocross star problems on the bike. The issue was fixed surgically, but Nys then had to
stay off the bike for weeks. The road back, however, has now begun.
"Four long weeks, but we're back," Nys wrote on Monday, alongside an
Instagram post featuring 20 photos from his time away. "Rehabilitation and rebuilding can begin," read the latest update from the
Lidl-Trek and Baloise-Het Poetsbureau Lions rider.
Nys knew back in March, when he and the team opted for surgery, that his spring was already written off. When we will see the punchy Belgian back in the peloton remains uncertain. Summer looks like the most realistic target, but with top athletes you never know.
In the meantime, Nys kept himself busy. A skiing holiday was followed by quality time with his girlfriend. He appeared on a talk show, played board games, cooked, and on Sunday watched compatriot
Wout van Aert win Paris-Roubaix.
