Movistar have made a hugely important move to secure their future.
Iván Romeo — former Under-23 time trial world champion and one of the most exciting Spanish talents in the peloton — has just extended his contract with the team. The 22-year-old all-rounder will remain at the squad for a further four seasons beyond this one, keeping him at Movistar through to the end of 2030.
Romeo joined Movistar's WorldTour roster in 2023. He was raw, but showed his talent in flashes from the beginning. In 2024 he announced himself to the world with the Under-23 Time Trial World Championship title in Zürich, and from that moment his career accelerated rapidly. In 2025 he immediately won a stage at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, and finished fourth overall at the UAE Tour — also taking the best young rider classification.
Later that year he won a stage at the Critérium du Dauphiné and claimed the Spanish national road race title. So far this season, he has already won the Ruta del Sol overall and a stage at O Gran Camiño. It is little surprise that Movistar have moved to tie him down through 2030.
"Extending my contract with
Movistar Team until 2030 gives me great peace of mind, knowing that I'll be able to keep progressing and improving the way I have over the past few years, which is ultimately what I've always wanted," Romeo said on the
team's website. "I feel very comfortable with the team — everyone knows that and I've never hidden it. I think having four more years ahead of me is a big step forward, allowing me to continue developing with the same calm and confidence I've had so far."

Romeo: 'I want to be a little better every day'
That sense of trust is a recurring theme for the young Spaniard. "What connects me most to the team is the mutual trust we have in each other. I also feel like a key piece in helping the team progress, and having my opinion heard is something I really value. I think we're taking steps forward, and that makes me feel part of the project."
"Looking ahead to the coming years, it may sound cliché, but I always say I want to be a little better every day, a little better each season. I've never had a year where I've gone backwards — I've always been very demanding of myself and focused on improving. It gets harder as the level rises, but I believe that if I continue on this upward path, it will lead me to compete for major races. That's the next step I need to take: being consistent, bringing victories to the team, and becoming a reliable leader."
Movistar team principal Sebastián Unzué sees in Romeo a central piece in his team's long-term project. And Romeo is still only 22. "We are convinced that Iván's best years are still ahead of him, and we're excited that they will be with Movistar Team as we fight for the major goals we have set ourselves."
Double or nothing: Paul extends his contract
Later on Tuesday, Jayco AlUla also had good news to share. The Australian team have extended the contract of
Paul Double through to the end of 2028. The British climber made his debut for the team last year and made an immediate impression. He won a stage at the Settimana Coppi e Bartali, the overall classification at the Tour of Slovakia, and the WorldTour race Tour of Guangxi.
"I am delighted to be staying with the team for the next two years," he told the
team's website. "It was an awesome debut year for me last year taking my first professional victories and I have felt so supported with Team Jayco AlUla. I have had a bit of a difficult period recently, but the team has always continued to believe in me and that is so important for my development."
Sporting manager Gene Bates is delighted with the news. "We are really excited to extend with Paul; he has demonstrated his class and ability last year with a couple of great wins and taking a WorldTour overall victory in Guangxi was a really big step for him. It is great to be able to extend his contract for two more years, this gives him support and confidence to keep making good progress. We have learnt a lot about Paul as a rider, and I think he has too. We know where his strengths lie and we believe he can achieve a lot."
