Primoz Roglic linked to high-profile move to Belgian team, possibly for the last time

It had already been known for some time that Primož Roglič would be leaving Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe after this year. The Slovenian cyclist does not yet have a team for the upcoming season, but the Belgian newspaper HLN is now reporting that Lotto-Intermarché could well become Roglič’s new, and possibly final, team.

The four-time Vuelta champion would like to end his career on a high note. Initially, that could have happened after this season, but according to HLN , Roglič would like to continue for another year. The Slovenian previously rode for Jumbo-Visma and will switch to Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe after 2023.

With Remco Evenepoel and Florian Lipowitz now leading the team’s stage race efforts, Roglič had to look for a new team for 2027. “A major transfer is in the works. Several sources have confirmed to our editorial staff that Primož Roglič is in negotiations with Lotto-Intermarché to race for the Belgian team for one more season in 2027,” according to HLN.

Roglič had previously been linked to Tom Pidcock’s Pinarello-Q36.5, but now Lotto-Intermarché is also reportedly in the running to sign him. The Belgian team is losing several key riders, including Lennert Van Eetvelt, Arnaud De Lie, and Georg Zimmermann, but has extended Jarno Widar’s contract.

This season’s results have also been somewhat disappointing, leaving the team in 18th place in the UCI rankings. Roglič, for his part, could help the team earn some points while minimally hindering the development of the young talents and pursuing his own goals. Roglič hopes to still win the Tour de Suisse, the only one of the seven major stage races he has yet to win.

Roglič hopes to start the Vuelta a España next Saturday in Monaco, but according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, that remains uncertain following a collision during training.
