Soudal Quick-Step signs former U23 World Time Trial Champion from Movistar: 'Impressive range of skills

August is well and truly underway, which means more and more the cycling transfer market is in full swing. On Monday morning, Soudal Quick-Step also joined the who's in and who's out merry-go-round. The Wolfpack has added a new wolf to its ranks: Lorenzo Milesi will ride for the Belgian team starting in 2027.

The Italian is still only 24 years old and has decided to move on after three years with Movistar. The 2023 U23 World Time Trial Champion has signed a three-year contract with Soudal Safety Jogger (as the team will be called starting next year), which runs through the end of 2029.

"When I started cycling, this team was one of my favorites, so you can imagine how happy I am at the prospect of wearing this jersey starting next year, especially since I had already trained with the team once during a training camp back in my junior days. "It was a pretty easy decision for me," Milesi says on his new team’s website.

The Italian certainly has his sights set on big goals. “I love time trials, but I also perform well on short climbs, and I hope to improve in both areas next season. I want to be there for the team, help them win when they need me, and show what I’m capable of, while also going for great personal results whenever I get the chance.”

"We've known Lorenzo for a while now and know exactly what he's capable of," said Soudal Quick-Step CEO Jürgen Foré. “He’s much more than just a time trialist, and it’s this impressive range of skills, along with the determination he’s shown so far in his career, that convinced us he would be a perfect fit for our team.”

Milesi is Soudal Safety Jogger’s third signing for 2027. The Belgian team had previously signed Tim Torn Teutenberg from Lidl-Trek. Ceriel Desal is being transferred from the development team and is therefore counted as a new signing.
