Once again, Florian Lipowitz has shown he is one of the best climbers in the Critérium du Dauphiné. The German rider from Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe finished on the podium for the second day in a row and, with one day to go, still has the chance of a podium finish in his own hands.
Lipowitz finished third in the seventh stage, behind stage winner Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates-XRG) and Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike). This means that the podium after stages six and seven consists of the same riders, with the same positions for the trio and Lipowitz twice with a good minute and twenty seconds behind Pogacar, who won both stages.
"It was a super hard day from the start again," Lipowitz said afterward to Domestique Cycling, among others. "I was really happy with my legs again and with the way we raced as a team. I paced myself on the last climb."
On that final climb, the fireworks began with Pogacar's attack. "I suffered a lot in the last five kilometres, and I was really happy when I saw the last kilometre mark. Finishing third is a really good result for me."

Lipowitz also lead rider in the Tour de France? "Roglic is the big leader there"

With the current form of the 24-year-old German, we can look forward to his performances in the upcoming Tour de France. However, the wearer of the white jersey indicates that he is not thinking about that yet, although he knows what to do in the three-week stage race. "The plan is to support Primoz Roglic there; he is the main leader. He is extremely strong and can perform well for three weeks. My goal is to support him there. I have demonstrated that I am good in the mountains, so I hope to make a difference for him."
First, Lipowitz and the Dauphiné peloton have to tackle the final stage. The rider is currently third in the GC, just under two minutes ahead of fourth-placed Remco Evenepoel. "I hope my legs feel the same tomorrow (Sunday, ed.). Finishing on the Critérium du Dauphiné podium would be incredible, but tomorrow will be another tough day."
This year, Lipowitz also finished on the final podium in Paris-Nice and came fourth in the Tour of the Basque Country GC.
