The Tour de France came to an end on Sunday, and anyone who made it to the finish line in Paris knew that a pizza was waiting for them there. Bas Tietema and his 'Tour de Tietema' have made it a tradition to provide pizzas for the riders on the Champs-Élysées, and Quinn Simmons was even willing to make a special trade for one.

It was in 2019 that Tour de Tietema traveled to the Tour de France for the first time to shoot content for their YouTube channel. Founders Bas Tietema, Josse Wester, and Devin van der Wiel organized several challenges for participants there, which resulted in some great footage.
Another tradition that has emerged is the so-called “pizza party” after the finish on the Champs-Élysées. This year was no exception, as we saw riders heading back with plenty of pizza boxes in hand. The riders know by now what to expect, but that certainly doesn’t make the interactions any less fun.

Evenepoel, Simmons, and Pedersen have a laugh at the Tour de Tietema

Take, for example, the one with Simmons, who was named best teammate of this Tour de France. With his team, Lidl-Trek, he also won the team classification, for which he (understandably) received a medal. He traded that very medal with Bas Tietema for a few pizzas. “The best deal ever,” read the headline on the Tour de Tietema Instagram account.
Remco Evenepoel, who finished second in this Tour de France, also stepped off the bus for a moment after dark. Van der Wiel gave him two pizzas to celebrate his second-place finish. “So does that mean Tadej only gets one?” the good-humored Evenepoel laughed.
Perhaps the best interaction was with Mads Pedersen. “We missed you the whole Tour,” the always-friendly Dane said to Tietema. “Next year,” Pedersen added. “We still need some climbers,” Tietema replied, to which the Dane said with a smile,“Sign me up.”
