In 2023, Remco Evenepoel started his own development team. Under the name R.EV Brussels Cycling Academy, the Belgian allowed young talents to prepare for the professional peloton. The team was hugely successful last weekend, with Mathias De Keersmaecker winning the Belgian junior title. Reason enough for Evenepoel to give him a call, even though he had to train. After winning the bunch sprint, the newly crowned Belgian champion explained what Evenepoel means to the team. "Remco is always very involved," De Keersmaeker told
RTV. "He is always the first to know the results." R.EV Brussels Cycling Academy has already had a lot of success this year. Among other things, the team won Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne in the junior category.
The two-time Olympic champion was the first to congratulate his protégé. "Remco immediately said congratulations. He had even waited to start training so he could call if we won. Patrick (Remco's father, ed.) said he had predicted it." Evenepoel's dedication to celebrating the success with his protégés shows how closely he is involved with the team he founded two years ago.

Evenepoel had no time for full workout
It even went so far that he postponed his training on the Sunday before. In the end, he did finish it, but there was only time for a 41-kilometer ride around his hometown. On
Strava, you can see that it took him 1 hour and 14 minutes. But even this training ride was dedicated to his team's success. "R.EV Brussels Cycling Academy championship celebration ride!" was the title of his bike ride.
Evenepoel initially founded the team to help children in Brussels 'who don't have the opportunity to cycle.' But the ambitious Belgian from
Soudal Quick-Step secretly hopes for more for the riders in his team. "There are rumors that the World Cycling Championships will be held in Brussels in 2030, so it's our big dream to have one boy and one girl from the R.EV Brussels Cycling Academy compete there."
