Felix Gall had a successful day on the road to Carì on Tuesday in the Giro d'Italia. The Austrian rider in French colours moved above Afonso Eulálio (Bahrain Victorious) into second place overall, and he also finished second in the stage, behind an unstoppable Jonas Vingegaard.

The riders of Decathlon CMA CGM even lent a hand to Visma | Lease a Bike on the road, with the aim of making the race as hard as possible for Eulálio. So when Vingegaard launched his attack, Gall did not really try to follow .
"They once again showed along the way that they are the ones who control the race, as a team too. It is very impressive what they do," Gall had warm words for his rivals. "And then you have Jonas himself, who just does his own thing".

Gall made smart use of Bernal

Gall himself also wanted to do his own thing. "My plan was to tackle it in the same way as the other harder stages and ride my own pace, but that was a bit more difficult. When I looked back, I saw that Thymen Arensman still had Egan Bernal with him".
"I also knew that there would still be a flatter section coming up and that it therefore made more sense to wait for them for a moment," Gall continued. "Still, I had to go quite deep as well, but at the line I was still able to take a few seconds. All in all, it was an intense stage, but still a good start to the third week".
Gall now sits second overall, 4:03 behind Vingegaard. Third-placed Arensman is only 24 seconds behind the Decathlon CMA CGM leader. Giulio Pellizzari was the big loser on Tuesday: the Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe rider lost no fewer than 18 minutes, and with that his strong position overall.
