Stage 10 of the Giro d’Italia created an uneven playing field due to the rain, leading to significant time gaps. Some major general classification contenders saw their strong standings quite literally washed away, while others benefited from the inconsistent rainfall. IDLprocycling.com breaks down how the GC riders performed in Pisa, while you can check out the updated general classification in the full article. Aside from Egan Bernal (INEOS Grenadiers), who lost the most, 1 minute and 58 seconds to Derek Gee, everyone, as far as we know, managed to stay upright, which was at least one positive in the time trial won by Dutchman Daan Hoole (Lidl-Trek).
Hoole took the win ahead of Joshua Tarling, with both riders starting in dry conditions, unlike most of the GC contenders, who had to ride much of their time trial in the rain.
Roglic got off relatively lightly, as it only began to rain during his ride. This allowed him, like
Thymen Arensman of INEOS Grenadiers, to complete the first, more technical section out of Lucca in dry conditions, whereas
Juan Ayuso and others faced heavier rain.
The Spaniard ultimately limited his losses to Roglic to just 19 seconds, while pink jersey Isaac Del Toro conceded 1 minute and 8 seconds to the Slovenian. Another standout performance came from Simon Yates of Visma | Lease a Bike, who delivered a strong ride despite the wet conditions.
