Soudal Quick-Step has finalized its selection for the Tour of Lombardy. The Belgian team is targeting Remco Evenepoel, who finished second in both the European and World Championships, in northern Italy. A strong team will support Evenepoel to challenge Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates-XRG) in the fifth and final Monument of the cycling season.
The Tour of Lombardy will also be the last race in the Soudal Quick-Step jersey for Evenepoel, who, as is well known, will be moving to Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe this winter. “Lombardia is a beautiful race which brings a lot of memories from the previous participations,” said the Belgian, who, after his heavy crash in 2020, is eager to win the Race of the Falling Leaves.
“At the same time, it’s a hard race, where you have to be really strong to be in contention for a nice result, and I feel that I come here with both a good form and a solid team around me, and this makes me confident in my chances,” said Evenepoel, who has won both the European and World Time Trial Championships in recent weeks.

Evenepoel with strong team in Lombardy

At his disposal are Mikel Landa (third in 2022), former Lombardy U23 winner Junior Lecerf, and Gianmarco Garofoli, who is in great form. Regular wingman Mattia Cattaneo and the reliable Belgians Pieter Serry and Louis Vervaeke complete the Belgian team.
“We have one last big race for this season, and we are keen on showing the Wolfpack spirit and the determination that has brought us so many great victories this season. Remco is motivated to end his season on a high note and we are motivated to give him the best support in order to get a good result in this prestigious race,” said sports director Luca Bramati.
