How much prize money did Jonas Vingegaard get for winning the Giro d'Italia?

The 2026 Giro d’Italia is over, which means the figurative and literal final accounts can now be drawn up. Visma | Lease a Bike, led by overall winner Jonas Vingegaard, unsurprisingly fared best, but how much money will the other teams have been paid by RCS after three weeks of racing?

Jonas Vingegaard earned more than 265,000 euros for winning the pink jersey, while runner-up Felix Gall of Decathlon CMA CGM and third-placed Jai Hindley of Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe will each receive 133,000 and 68,000 euros respectively. The men also earned prize money from their stage results, of course.

A stage win in the Giro, of which Vingegaard took five, is worth 11,000 euros. Second place pays 5,500 euros, and third place 2,750 euros. All of that money is placed in a fictional pot, which is then divided among the riders at the end of the race, with part of it also going to staff members.

Paul Magnier, winner of the points classification on behalf of Soudal Quick-Step, received 10,000 euros for his win in that final ranking of that side classification. Afonso Eulalio (Bahrain Victorious) also received that amount as winner of the youth classification, while Giulio Ciccone (winner of the mountain jersey on behalf of Lidl-Trek) had to make do with 7500 euros.

For each day in the pink jersey, the teams also receive 2,000 euros, which partially accounts for Bahrain Victorious' third position. However, their 108,00 euros earnings is almost four times less than Visma | Lease a Bike. With 408,000 euros, the winning team is head and shoulders above the rest in the prize money standings.

In the final days of the Giro d'Italia , there was also much to do about the Red Bull kilometer classification. Crazy? Not when you find out the prize money. After all, Igor Arrieta (UAE Emirates-XRG) took that classification and won no less than 15,000 euros, which is not to be sniffed at.

At the bottom of the list we find Alpecin-Premier Tech (10,485 euros) in place 21, which was unlucky in losing Kaden Groves. Unibet Rose Rockets bet fully on a stage win with Dylan Groenewegen and earned 8,690 euros, but that is still four times more than the number last in the standings: Picnic PostNL Raisin earned "only" 2179 euros in the past three weeks.
