Mathieu van der Poel is back training on his favorite roads in Spain. And when the Dutchman is riding around the Alicante region, chances are his regular training partner Freddy Ovett is close by. The duo have already entertained fans all winter and spring with their social media content, and now they’re reunited once again. Ovett, a gravel rider and ambassador for brands like Canyon and Zwift, shared the news via an
Instagram story: “We’re back,” he wrote, tagging the location as “Healed”, likely a reference to Van der Poel’s recent
wrist fracture, from which he has now recovered.
But Ovett didn’t stop at a story. As expected, he posted a video too, featuring Van der Poel front and center. And it’s the caption and the comments that really steal the show. “Instagram bike fitters, help this guy out,” Ovett joked, as Van der Poel is seen riding in an ultra-aerodynamic position in an
Instagram reel, earning praise from fans who flooded the post with admiration.
A small selection of the reactions: “Art,” “Picture-perfect,” and “Absolute King of Bikeporn,” commented several cycling fans. Even Johan Bruyneel was impressed and replied with three fire emojis. Canyon, the bike sponsor for both riders, also chimed in with a witty remark: “Looks good, he should try professional cycling.”

On the cycling platform
Strava, the reactions were equally enthusiastic. “The GOAT is back!” and “How is he so aerodynamic?” were posted under Ovett’s two-hour ride, which included a photo of the
Alpecin-Deceuninck rider. There was even a touch of critique: “Sleeves too short, otherwise perfect.” Van der Poel himself hasn’t posted anything on Strava for quite some time.
In Spain, Van der Poel is preparing for the Tour de France, which kicks off in just over two and a half weeks in Lille. At last week’s Critérium du Dauphiné, the cyclo-cross world champion was
sharpening his race fitness. “That’s no longer a problem,” said the former road world champion after the final stage.
In the Tour de France, Van der Poel will likely shine during the first week, with a route seemingly tailor-made for him. The race starts in Lille, but places like Dunkirk and the Mur de Bretagne will also feature in the opening stages.
