Squad announcements are coming in thick and fast for the Giro d'Italia, as Lidl-Trek confirm their eight riders. With Jonathan Milan on board, the goal in the sprint stages is clear — while Derek Gee-West brings GC ambitions to the table.

Last year's Giro d'Italia was an extremely successful one for Lidl-Trek. Thanks to Mads Pedersen there were four stage wins — and a spell in the pink jersey — while Daan Hoole (stage 10) and Carlos Verona (stage 15) also got in on the celebrations. None of those three are in the squad this year.
Who is? Milan, for one — returning to the Giro after a year away in which he was given priority over Pedersen for the Tour de France. At the Italian race he has been outstanding: in his two appearances he has won four stages and claimed the points classification both times.

Gee-West and Ciccone also in the mix

That will be a goal again this year — but Lidl-Trek also have clear GC ambitions with Gee-West. The Canadian arrived from Israel-Premier Tech after a turbulent period, but has not yet found his very best form this year — a seventh at the UAE Tour aside. The Giro, however, is the race where he broke through in 2023, and where he finished fourth last year.
Giulio Ciccone, meanwhile, appears to have put his GC aspirations behind him after several brave attempts. The experienced Italian will mainly be looking for stage opportunities, of which he will have some attractive options in his home country.
