Vos took a hard fall during the opening stage of the Vuelta and broke her collarbone. She managed to finish that stage, but a broken collarbone was diagnosed at the hospital. “I was really looking forward to the Vuelta. The route really appealed to me, and there were some great stages on the schedule,” she said on her team's website.
"I felt pain right after the fall. I hoped it wasn't too bad, but after the stage it quickly became clear that something wasn't right and, unfortunately, I had to go home," said Vos, who then headed to Mallorca to get back into shape.

"Over the past six months, I haven't had much consistency, so I had to start building up from the ground up. Fortunately, it felt a little better every day," said Vos, who lost her father, Henk, earlier this year.

Laura Molenaar on the attack

Laura Molenaar set the pace for much of the race with a strong attack, but in the final stretch, the sprint teams reeled her in. Visma | Lease a Bike took the lead, which proved wise, as a serious crash took down those around 8th position during the final kilometer.
Nienke Veenhoven launched her sprint from a distance, with Vos hot on her heels. Both women crossed the finish line with their hands in the air. A more perfect comeback for Vos you couldn't have written.
