Netflix has released on social media the trailer for the final season of the Tour de France series, 'Au cœur du peloton' (in the heart of the peloton). The American streaming service has chosen to release the season based on the 2024 Tour remarkably late.
In previous years, the series was usually released in mid-June, but this year, it will be released on July 2. That is just two days before the 2025 Tour de France in Lille starts, so you'll have to be quick if you want to watch it before the Grand Départ.
The series about the 2024 season features some familiar names. The trailer already features riders such as Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel, Mark Cavendish, and Jasper Philipsen.
This will be the last season that Netflix will cover the Tour this way. This is partly due to the costs involved, much to the disappointment of some teams. "It had a positive impact at the time, and from what I heard, the series brought a whole new audience to the sport. That was a second positive point, and it showed the potential of the sport. But where they missed the mark—and I said this from the beginning—was in the choice of characters and narrators," said Richard Plugge this winter.
"Not that I have anything against France, but if you did it in Dutch, you wouldn't have a successful series either. If you want to make something international, it has to be in English and with people who speak English—even if it's broken English like mine."
