Stage two in Albania is done! After Pedersen sprinted to the pink jersey in a reduced bunch on stage one, today featured a key time trial. The nearly 14-kilometer test against the clock was the first major appointment for the GC contenders, and it didn’t disappoint. After just two stages, some riders are already facing significant time gaps. IDLProCycling.com breaks down the differences.
The big winner?
Primoz Roglic, without a doubt. The Slovenian, aiming to win La Corsa Rosa for the second year in a row, finished second in the time trial,
just one second behind winner Joshua Tarling. But thanks to that result, Roglic takes over the overall lead. Whether he’ll defend the pink jersey tomorrow remains to be seen.
The biggest loser of the day was likely
Juan Ayuso. The Spaniard finished 10th on the stage but was surely hoping for more. Normally a strong time trialist, Ayuso had hoped to gain time on Roglic, not lose it.
