The Spanish ProContinental squad Burgos-BH has confirmed the eight riders who will line up on Saturday for their most important race of the year: the Vuelta a España. Sports director Jetse Bol heads into the race with a young team and hopes to make an impression at this elite level.
On their official website, Burgos-BH lays out the team’s goals and rider roster. "The team stands out for its youthful composition, with an average age of 24 and three riders making their grand tour debut in their first year as professionals. In fact, only one of the selected riders has previously ridden La Vuelta."
“Eric Fagúndez, who already raced in 2023 and made a mark in the breakaways,” the team notes. "The Uruguayan national time trial champion will be one to watch in the high mountains, following a season that included second place at the Gran Premio Castellón and fifth in O Gran Camiño."
"The other South American rider from Burgos–Burpellet BH will also make his debut at La Vuelta. Sergio Chumil continues to make history for Guatemala as he prepares for his first start in this prestigious three-week race. He’s a young climber looking to impress in the Spanish grand tour."
Mario Aparicio, Carlos García Pierna, and Sinuhé Fernández are seen by the team as attackers, while Daniel Cavia is being positioned as the designated sprinter. “He had a great spring, starting at O Gran Camiño, where he finished fourth in the opening stage. In Asia, he came close to a win, with three top-10 finishes at the Tour of Hainan and another four at the Tour of Taiwan, where he placed seventh overall,” the team stated.
Hugo de la Calle and José Luis Faura will round out the lineup as young talents eager to throw themselves into the race, having already shown their potential as climbers earlier this season.
