Alpecin-Premier Tech announced the summer programmes of
Mathieu van der Poel and
Jasper Philipsen on Friday afternoon. Thanks to the
press release, we now know exactly where the two big stars will appear this summer. Both will make the trip to Switzerland, with Philipsen first lining up in Denmark.
It had already been known for some time that
Van der Poel would ride the Tour de France. The Dutchman had revealed his goals for after the spring some time ago, citing the mountain bike World Championships later this year are also a major target. However, no mountain bike races appear on the newly published schedule.
There had also been rumours that the Tour de Suisse, which starts on 17 June, could count on
Van der Poel’s participation. That was confirmed by Alpecin-Premier Tech on Friday: the Dutchman will line up later this month in the five-day WorldTour race.
“After a strong spring campaign, in which he once again impressed in the cobbled Classics, Mathieu van der Poel is now fully focusing on the summer. The former world champion will race the Tour de Suisse later this month, his only race block before the
Tour de France,” the team said.
He then goes on to the Tour, which starts on 4 July. “There he wants to play an important role once again in the sprint train and in the hunt for stage wins,” Alpecin-Premier Tech also made clear.

Philipsen has a packed pre-Tour de France
And Philipsen? “He also follows a clearly defined programme in the coming weeks. The Belgian sprinter returns to competition next weekend at the Copenhagen Sprint. He will then also take part in the Tour de Suisse, where he wants to build race rhythm for his main goal this summer.”
Between the Tour de Suisse and the Tour, the man from Ham will also line up for the Belgian road championships. That takes place on 28 June in Brasschaat, where Wout van Aert recently did a reconnaissance ride by coincidence. After that comes the Tour de France for Philipsen.
