Matteo Jorgenson has extended his contract with Visma | Lease a Bike until the end of 2029. The 26-year-old American has risen to the world’s top tier since joining the team in 2024, with two overall victories at Paris-Nice as tangible proof. At the Dutch cycling team, Jorgenson hopes to continue growing in the coming years. Jorgenson’s current contract was set to run until the end of 2026, so both parties have added no less than three more seasons. “I felt at home here straight away and I don’t see any other team where I can work with the same confidence and calm as here,”
said the American, who previously rode for Movistar and once interned with what is now Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale. “It was actually an easy choice.”
After just one and a half seasons with Visma | Lease a Bike, he has convinced the team of his abilities. “The way of working and the mentality within the team match mine. For a rider like me, who pays a lot of attention to small details, it’s very important to work in an environment where you trust all the people around you. I’ve found that here with the coaches, team directors, food coaches, management, and all the other specialists in the team.”

Jorgenson sets "ambitious goals" for himself
“They look at those details even more closely than I ever could myself, which allows me to focus on my job – training and racing,” echoes the praise. “Winning Paris-Nice twice is something that seemed impossible before I joined this team. It has made me adjust my goals and ambitions and has allowed me to dare to dream bigger. I’ve set myself ambitious goals for the next four years and want to make this period the peak of my career.”
Grischa Niermann, team director and one of the five management members, is delighted with Jorgenson’s new contract. “Despite his existing contract, it was our priority to secure Matteo for the long term. He is a very important link for us in both grand tours and the classics. We have big plans with him and are happy he has committed his future to us for the long term.”
One of Jorgenson’s goals, who will celebrate his 26th birthday on July 1, is a general classification result in the
Tour de France. Jonas Vingegaard is the main leader,
but the team also wants to keep Jorgenson high in the standings.
