Jayco AlUla have only just presented their newest WorldTour riders, but a problem has already arrived. The Australian team did not submit all of its essential registration documents for 2027 by the UCI's 15 October deadline, and that applies to both the men's team and Liv AlUla Jayco. The UCI has confirmed that riders on the teams concerned may now terminate their contracts early. Should Ben Wiggins and the other newcomers be worried?

UCI: riders may terminate their contracts early

On Monday the UCI published its list of teams that had filed their paperwork on time. Two WorldTour organisations were missing from both the men's and the women's lists: Jayco AlUla and Picnic PostNL.
Picnic PostNL have had plenty of problems in the last few years. They have failed to apply for their 2027 WorldTour license on time for the second year in a row.

In accordance with the UCI Regulations and subject to other applicable provisions, riders from these teams may terminate their contracts early, but this right will lapse if their team is subsequently registered.

If Jayco complete their file and are registered, the riders lose that right. At the time pf writing there was no indication that any rider has attempted to end their contract.
Domestique reports that teams had to submit a registration file, a bank guarantee and 10 signed rider contracts. The last deadline for essential documents is 1 November, and teams that file late can be fined. WorldTour teams that are refused registration are then considered for ProTeam status.

A large new intake caught in the gap

Earlier this week the team promoted Wiggins, Jed Smithson, Adam Rafferty and Wil Holmes from Hagens Berman Jayco.
Jayco AlUla had already strengthened its 2027 roster, including recruiting sprinter Sam Welsford. Welsford is leaving Netcompany INEOS after just one season and has signed a two-year deal.
Mikkel Honoré has signed a two-year contract after four seasons at EF Education-EasyPost. On the women's side, GreenEDGE Cycling is due to welcome Brodie Chapman and Mikayla Harvey in January. None of these riders has said anything publicly about the registration delay.

Jayco: 'purely due to a technical transfer process'

Escape Collective points out that this is the second year in a row the organisation has filed late. The Jayco AlUla and Liv AlUla Jayco teams also missed the October deadline last year because of bank guarantee and sponsorship problems, but still secured WorldTour status in the end.
The team told Domestique it is dealing with similar problems this year, as it goes through ownership and sponsor changes after Gerry Ryan confirmed he would step back to become a minority stakeholder in 2027.
This is purely due to a technical transfer process that will be resolved very soon. Processing the bank guarantee required by the UCI involves cross-border financial operations that sometimes can encounter delays.

Jayco AlUla more stable than Picnic PostNL

Jayco AlUla appear to be on more solid footing than Picnic PostNL, and that Daniel Benson reported last month that a new major co-sponsor would secure the team's future for the next five seasons.
CyclingFlash had reported in August that a new sponsor would solve the financial problems, and says the team apparently just needs a little more time to sort out the administration.
The final answer is due on 8 December, when the UCI publishes its list of registered teams for 2027.
