September has begun, but the transfers continue to arrive. This is particularly true at Q36.5, the team that has already been notably active in the transfer market. After signing two Belgians, Xandro Meurisse and Quinten Hermans, from Alpecin-Deceuninck, another Belgian is set to join the team. Brent Van Moer has decided to leave Lotto after ten years to embark on a new adventure.
“For me it felt like it was time for the next step,” Van Moer explained his move in a press release. The Belgian has spent his entire career at Lotto so far. “There were more teams interested but in Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team I found a vision that I liked. It’s a team that wants to grow. They were looking for someone for a free role in the Classics, showed the confidence in my abilities and believe I can win again.”
The rider from Beveren arrives at his new team with high hopes for the classics. “Realistically I won’t say I will win the Tour of Flanders but smaller Classics like Denain, Nokere or Limburg suit me. They support me in my wish to become that attacking rider again. That confidence and a bit of luck in the races can get you far.”
Van Moer himself knows all too well how he can and wants to strike. "I am a rider who needs to race from an early breakaway or a late attack. In 2021 I have shown I can do that successfully in the Dauphiné, and almost in Tirreno Adriatico, Ronde van Limburg [where he was sent the wrong way in winning position] and Tour de France. It’s not easy to win from an attack because the pace these days is super high, but I do hope to get back to that winning feeling again."

"He is a courageous, attacking rider who is never afraid to take risks," said general manager Ryder about Van Moer

“I look forward to finding out what working with new coaches, new sports directors, new nutritionists and other scientific staff members and new teammates can do to take that final step back to where I want to be,” the Belgian continues. “t’s an international team with lots of ambition and that gives me new energy. Frederik Frison told me it would be a good fit for me and in my conversations with Kurt Bogaerts and Doug Ryder that was soon confirmed. They have full confidence in me and that’s already a huge mental boost.”
General manager Ryder adds. "After ten years of dedication and loyalty within the Lotto team setup, Brent now seeks a fresh challenge where he can ride with some freedom and aggression and rediscover the winning mentality that has always been a part of him. He is a courageous, attacking rider who is never afraid to take risks, and that style of racing reflects the spirit we want to showcase as a team. Brent’s experience and hunger to race for victories will bring both strength and inspiration to our group as we continue to push forward and achieve our goals as a team."
