However, the new policy isn’t a success for everyone, as evidenced by a post from 19-year-old Valentin Martinet on his social media channels.

Decathlon have focused their team on young star Seixas
Decathlon CMA CGM have had a fantastic 2026 season
Decathlon CMA CGM has more to spend, but never loses sight of young homegrown talent. Paul Seixas is, of course, an extreme example of the talent emerging from France, but top prospects like Léo Bisiaux, Antoine L'Hote, Noa Isidore, and cyclocross sensation Aubin Sparfel are also on the roster for 2027.

Add to that the recruitment of international talent and a few new signings, and you’ll have a cycling team that won 33 times already this year. This puts the French team in fourth place in the UCI Team Rankings at the end of the season, behind major players UAE Emirates-XRG, Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, and Visma | Lease a Bike. Lidl-Trek was left well behind.

French youngster leaves Decathlon CMA CGM
You’d think that every French talent would be perfectly at home with the new powerhouse in cycling, but that’s not the case for everyone. After three seasons with the French team, Valentin Martinet is closing the door behind him. He rode for the junior team in 2024 and 2025 and competed for the Under-23 development team in 2026. That wasn’t a resounding success.
Martinet said he was no longer happy at Decathlon. “I made my decision fairly early in the season, and I think everyone saw it coming. I’m ending my time with Decathlon CMA CGM,” said the sprinter. “I didn’t find my footing in this environment; I wasn’t happy, and the sport was no longer a place where I could enjoy myself.”
Nevertheless, Martinet was considered a talented rider, with plenty of stamina and the ability to tackle hills. Still, he made up his mind. “I’ll always be grateful for the people I’ve met, the trips I’ve taken, and the races I’ve been able to compete in. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this chapter of my life.”
It is not known whether Martinet will continue his career as a cyclist.

- Seixas has said he’s bored with the transfer talk, so maybe the article could give more space to the racing itself. He’s under contract until 2027; there’s no need to turn every appearance into a signing saga.velodromevirtuoso103-11-2026
- I’m still figuring out how these criteriums work: is the team time trial in Saitama part of the main race, or a separate event? Either way, seeing Cavendish there as an ambassador is pretty cool.davidm03-11-2026
- McNulty’s Veneto Classic win in the rainbow jersey was a strong way to close his season. The45km Saitama circuit ridden 25 times sounds like it could suit punchy riders as much as the sprinters. Who’s the favourite?tourdeforce903-11-2026
- Seixas and Del Toro on the same start line again—should be lively after Montréal and the Worlds. These criteriums aren’t championship road races, but I’d love to see Seixas take the initiative this time.cyclechamp4503-11-2026

- Those junior races are a great addition — it gives young riders a proper spotlight before the elites take over. Hope the course makes the most of the park rather than just being a muddy spectator scrum!samanthak02-11-2026
- Fantastic to see cyclocross getting this kind of response in Scotland. A packed Kelvingrove Park should make for a brilliant atmosphere, especially with Mason racing on home roads.raceready702-11-2026
- No explanation after 15 years feels a bit thin. The budget pressure may be unrelated, but it’s hard not to wonder if all these changes are connected.samanthak02-11-2026
