The 2027 Tour de France Femmes is still 9.5 months away, but as of October 22, we already know what awaits the riders in August 2027. Demi Vollering and her teammates will already be hard at work studying the 2027 route. How will the defending champion and world champion view this nine-day race?

British Grand depart will be stressful for the favourites

The stage starts in Leeds and finishes 86 kilometers later in Manchester. It’s not exactly a stage Vollering needs to worry about, it will cause some stress to the GC favourites. 1,400 meters of elevation gain packed into three fairly steep hills, all on narrow roads, will need to be survived.

More important is Day Two, which, with 2,800 meters of elevation gain over 154 kilometers, is a tough one right off the bat.
The final stretch is virtually identical to that of the second stage of the 2014 men’s Tour de France Won by... Vincenzo Nibali, who went on to dominate the rest of the race and won by a wide margin for Astana. Talk about a great example.

The next day, we’ll have a team time trial in London, which will be a first in the history of the Tour de France Femmes. Vollering is currently in California with equipment sponsor Specialized, and that discipline will also be covered extensively there.
With her FDJ-Suez team of Franziska Koch and Juliette Berthet, among others, she’ll be taking on the Movistar team led by Marlen Reusser and—as of Wednesday—Paula Blasi. Interesting!

After the crossing to the European mainland, the race continues to Calais. We don’t see any major obstacles in this stage, but riders will need to be on their guard along the coast.
The very next day brings a challenging transition stage toward Magnanville, featuring six climbs in the final fifty kilometers. Right up the world champion’s alley!
After a ride to Bourges—and a few long transfers—the final stages of the Tour de France Femmes will take place in the Auvergne hills around Clermont-Ferrand.
Stage seven takes the riders to La Loge des Gardes (6.7 km at 7.1%), where Tadej Pogacar (2023) and Joao Almeida (2025) have previously won at Paris-Nice.

Iconic finale of the Tour de France Femmes

The second Saturday features 3,000 meters of elevation gain over 151 kilometers, with the route going up and down from start to finish.
The real highlight, however, comes on the final day, when the women are sent to the summit of the Puy-de-Dôme (11.3 km at 7.8%) on a stage that has already covered 3,000 meters of elevation gain.
This is ideal for Vollering, who will have learnt from this year’s Mont Ventoux and doesn’t want to be caught off guard again.

Vollering will be difficult to beat at the 2027 Tour de France Femmes

All in all, it’s a pretty challenging course. Although Vollering is better at making her mark on the longer climbs, she showed at the recent World and European Championships that—with good support—she’s virtually unbeatable even on shorter stages.
If the FDJ-Suez women can ride as cohesively as the Dutch team did in September and October, it will once again be difficult to beat Vollering.
