Grand Départ in England, including team time trial in London

Just like the men’s Tour de France, the Tour de France Femmes will start in the United Kingdom next year. But while the men begin in Edinburgh, the women will start a bit further south, in England. The first stage is short, running between Leeds and Manchester. And here, too, the yellow jersey seems within reach for the fast women.

But things get a lot tougher right away. Between Manchester and Sheffield, there’s a significant amount of elevation gain, with short but brutal climbs. The final stretch features several steep hills, which is music to the attackers’ ears. The British opening weekend wraps up in London, where an 18-kilometre team time trial is on the schedule—the first in the Tour de France Femmes.

Opportunities for breakaway riders, finale at Puy-de-Dôme

This is followed by a stage along the French coast, finishing in Calais. Note: the wind could play a role. It’s also the same final stretch where Wout van Aert, wearing the yellow jersey, soared to victory like an albatross in 2022—so the punchy attackers will have a field day. They’ll keep pushing all the way to Magnanville, with a grueling final stretch and an uphill sprint. What a start to the race in France!

In Bourges, on the fifth stage, the sprinters will finally get another chance. That’s followed by the first mountain finish, at La Loge des Gardes. This is where Tadej Pogacar won Paris-Nice in 2023, and where João Almeida did the same last year. It looks like a tough final climb that will really separate the field. And we’ll keep climbing in the Auvergne, with six climbs and a finish in Clermont-Ferrand.
That’s also where the riders will set off on the final stage, the queen stage. 170 kilometers and 3,800 meters of elevation gain: a leg-breaker, with a notorious finish—the Puy-de-Dôme is hosting a Tour de France Femmes finish for the first time. The outcome will be decided on this legendary volcano.
