Paula Blasi drew attention with a breakout 2026
Blasi raced for UAE ADQ and enjoyed success with that team, but her contract reportedly included a release clause of just 100,000 euros. Naturally, following her successes, this sparked interest from several other teams, which tried to offer Blasi attractive prospects.
Blasi was allowed to compete in the Tour, but—despite winning the Vuelta—
only as a domestique. She ultimately signed with Movistar,
as was announced on Wednesday. “I’ve reached a point in my athletic career where I needed to take a different step and look for a team that believed in me, supported my goals, and was just as ambitious as I am.”
Paula Blasi wants to take on Vollering
The former triathlete will be competing against Demi Vollering, among others:
“I can grow here, share leadership responsibilities, and learn from Marlen (Reusser, ed.), which will be important for my development as an athlete. And besides, it’s my home team. It makes me even prouder to wear the jersey,” said the Spanish athlete.
Sebastián Unzué, the team’s manager, adds: “We are incredibly happy to finally announce Paula’s arrival on our team for the next three seasons.
Her contract represents a new step forward in terms of quality, allowing us to compete in the most important races on the calendar. I want to thank Paula for her trust and her belief in this project. We can’t wait to get started together.”
Whether or not Blasi can challenge Demi Vollering or not, we're certainly looking forward to the 2027 road season getting under way.
