Demi Vollering to lead the Dutch women's team at World Cycling Championships in Montreal; Anna van der Breggen will not start

The Dutch women's national team coach Laurens ten Dam has announced his team for the 2026 World Cycling Championships in Montreal. Demi Vollering is the team leader, while Anna van der Breggen is not included in the team.

Vollering will be joined by Mischa Bredewold, Riejanne Markus, Lieke Nooijen, Puck Pieterse, Karlijn Swinkels, and Femke de Vries to provide support. Nooijen and Tour de France Femmes winner Vollering will also compete in the time trial.

"It's remarkable to see how many Dutch female cyclists have made their mark at the highest level this season. I'm proud to be the national team coach of such a strong generation," said Ten Dam.

"Demi is our leader, but at a World Championships, you need each other to go far. The key is to bring all those individual strengths together as a team. If we make the most of our chances at the crucial moments, we can look forward to a great World Cup with confidence."

"With Demi and Lieke, we have two strong assets for the time trial. They've both shown that they can compete at this level."

Technical Director Wilbert Broekhuizen is pleased with the roster on paper. We’re seeing a generation that’s making its mark in international cycling across various disciplines and with different riders. That’s a great foundation for TeamNL Cycling to build upon. “A World Championship is the perfect occasion for all that talent to come together and for the Netherlands to show where we stand.”

Van der Breggen, who finished second at last year's World Time Trial Championships and third at the European Road Championships, and who placed second in the Vuelta and third in the Giro this season, is the most notable absentee. It is not known why she is not competing.
