Fabio Jakobsen made a very surprising move this summer, leaving Picnic PostNL for Visma | Lease a Bike. The 30-year-old Dutchman has been struggling for several years, but the Killer Bees gave him an unexpected opportunity. Although the year is drawing to a close, the sprinter will make his WorldTour debut in October. Jakobsen has won a total of 46 races during his professional career, including the 2022
European Championships, a stage in the Tour de France, and five stages in the Vuelta a España.
Jakobsen has faced difficulties in past seasons
After leaving Soudal Quick-Step at the end of 2023, he faced difficulties, partly because of a pinched femoral artery. The “Hulk of Heukelum” won once more for Picnic PostNL in the 2024 Tour of Turkey, but since then he has struggled to ride at the front of the race.
Surgery to correct the problem didn’t yield the results he had hoped for. A 15th-place finish in the opening stage of the AlUla Tour was his best result this year.
His move to
Visma | Lease a Bike therefore came as a huge surprise. Despite his disappointing results, the team still saw a great deal of potential in the sprinter, and so he was signed with immediate effect.
