Following Demi Vollering, Remco Evenepoel also slapped with a hefty fine at the World Cycling Championships

Follow us on GoogleRemco Evenepoel started Sunday as the top favourite at the World Cycling Championships, but the Belgian wasn't at his best and ultimately had to settle for twelfth place in Montreal, Canada. That evening, Evenepoel's name also appeared in the UCI's jury report.

Evenepoel was fined 500 Swiss francs and had 25 points deducted from the UCI rankings for discarding trash outside the designated areas. For an incident similar to Evenepoel’s—but involving an unidentified rider—Swiss team manager Patrick Müller was also fined 500 Swiss francs.
After watching Brandon McNulty solo to victory on Sunday afternoon, the fine will added insult to injury for Evenenpoel. Especially as Evenepoel was touted as the top favourite after his 4th consecutive time trial win the week before.
The UCI handed out many fines at the elite men's road race
Those weren’t the only fines; smaller countries were also fined by the UCI. Because of inconsistencies in the team’s uniforms, Biniam Girmay and Henok Mulueberhan were each fined 500 Swiss francs, and team manager Samsom Ghebreyesus was fined 1,000 Swiss francs.
Finally, Manuel Rodas of Guatemala was fined 1,000 Swiss francs, received 25 points in the UCI rankings, and was given a yellow card for riding in an illegal position on his bike. A bitter pill to swallow for a small cycling federation.

Just a day before Evenepoel, Vollering had already been fined by the UCI
A day earlier, the jury had also penalised Demi Vollering, the winner of the Women’s World Championships. The Dutch rider, like the Austrian Katharina Sadnik, was fined 1,000 Swiss francs, and had to forfeit 25 points in the UCI standings and received a yellow card.
All of this was due to adopting an unauthorized posture or point of support on the bicycle, as stated in the official press release from the UCI commissioners in Montreal.
