"For you, Daisy": Robert Gesink honors late wife with bike ride and touching photos

It sent shockwaves through the cycling world on Saturday evening: Robert Gesink announced on social media that his wife Daisy had passed away. The Dutch former cyclist received incredible support from colleagues and decided to distract himself on Sunday morning with a bike ride, which he dedicated to his late partner.
Gesink posted an Instagram message on Saturday announcing his wife's passing: "You will live in our hearts forever. Thank you for all the love you gave us and for your beautiful smile that lit up every room. It breaks my heart that we have to go on without you, but above all, I’m so proud to be your husband."

The former Visma | Lease a Bike rider received much support from the cycling world. Colleagues such as Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert, Thymen Arensman, Vincenzo Nibali, Tao Geoghegan Hart, Demi Vollering, Marcel Kittel, Julian Alaphilippe, Annemiek van Vleuten, Bram Tankink, and many others expressed their condolences to Gesink.
Van Aert said his thoughts were with Gesink and his children Anne and Bram, while Dylan van Baarle also sent a special message. "Life can be so unfair. An incredibly beautiful person has left this world far too soon, and my thoughts are with Robert and his family."

Gesink honors bike ride to deceased wife Daisy

Gesink himself went for a bike ride in Andorra on Sunday morning. "This one's for you, Daisy," was the caption accompanying the Strava ride. "You would have wanted me to keep cycling forever." Gesink also posted some touching photos from his ride. One of Daisy with two mountain bikes and another photo taken at the same spot with only one bike.
