Netcompany INEOS has once again signed an additional climber. Following Harold Tejada and Markel Beloki, Clément Champoussin is also joining the British team. Like Tejada, the Frenchman has been poached from XDS Astana and has signed a three-year contract. The 28-year-old rider is now joining his fourth WorldTour team. Netcompany INEOS investing in climber despite disappointing season
Champoussin turned pro with AG2R La Mondiale in 2020 after completing a training program. He rode with the team for four years and also claimed his biggest victory in 2021: he surprised everyone by winning the 20th stage of the Vuelta a España. He then opted for a new challenge with Arkéa Samsic, before moving on to XDS Astana after two years.

Champoussin claimed his biggest victory in the 2021 Vuelta.
He had an excellent season last year with Alexandre Vinokourov’s team, finishing seventh in Paris-Nice, tenth in the Tour of the Basque Country, and tenth in the Tour de Suisse. This year things didn’t go quite as smoothly, but despite that,
Netcompany INEOS is eager to take on the challenge.
Champoussin pleased with top transfer
"I'm incredibly happy to be joining Netcompany INEOS for this new chapter in my career," Champoussin says on the
team's website. "I’m looking forward to working with my new teammates, continuing to develop as a rider, and contributing to the team’s ambitions. I can’t wait to embark on this new adventure, put on the jersey, and give it my all in my new colors."
Geraint Thomas is pleased with the new addition. The Director of Racing sees the Frenchman primarily as a way to strengthen the team’s depth.
“Clément brings considerable experience and an extra dimension to the team. He is a solid, strong, and consistent climber who has shown he can perform at the highest level. He will significantly strengthen our roster, particularly in the mountains, and give us more options in stage races. We are therefore very pleased that he is joining us.”
These are
turbulent times for Netcompany INEOS. They’ve already signed Tejada and Beloki, but they’ve also said goodbye to sprinter Sam Welsford.
Filippo Ganna’s departure hit the team the hardest. The Italian is leaving after eight years of loyal service
and has signed with Lidl-Trek.
