As we head further towards the summer of 2026 it is beginning to look like there may be plenty of sunshine ahead for those who occupy the usually cold and windy British Isles with entertaining moments coming rapidly from sporting endeavours as diverse as the domestic football campaign, cricket, rugby and even cycling.

It has again turned in to another good weekend for the Great Britain team for anyone who looks at the cycling results as they continue to compete out in the Track World Cup even hosted by Hong Kong this year, and Olympic silver medallist Matt Richardson has just taken all the glory for himself as he easily stormed to two podium Golds in the tournament as the well respected GB Team won a total of nine medals.
It has been a good weekend personally for the now 27 year old, as following the celebration of his birthday on Friday, picking up two Golds in in a matter of 48 hours is a hell of a way to make a memorable day stand out even more in the future when he reflects back on his success much later in the day when he is enjoying his retirement.

The Maidstone born, former Australian representative, initially picked up the winners medal for the men's sprint, and then proceeded to anchor the sprint team to victory in their event alongside team mates Joe Truman and Harry Ledlingham-Horn.
His latest achievement in the sport comes just two months after he won and lifted the European title at the events held out, and hosted by, Turkey. Regular cycling fans will remember that he took silver in the Paris 2024 Olympics whilst racing for Australia, before then completing his switch.
Emma Finucane tasted success of her own again and added to her track cycling collection which already includes an Olympic team sprint gold, two world champion titles and one sprint European champion win - and a world and European champion in the team sprint - and this time it was another double. The 23 year old initially took more gold in the women's sprint, and then the Welsh native took silver alongside Rhianna Parris-Smith and Lauren Bell in the team sprint.

She was not finished there though, having dominated the sprint event and securing a 2-0 victory over Mina Sato in the final, she completed the collection by picking up bronze in the women's keirin.
Full winners list:
Gold - Men's team sprint (Joe Truman, Harry Ledingham-Horn, Matt Richardson), men's sprint (Matt Richardson), women's sprint (Emma Finucane)
Silver - Women's team sprint (Rhianna Parris-Smith, Emma Finucane, Lauren Bell), women's team pursuit (Meg Barker, Erin Boothman, Maddie Leech, Jess Roberts), women's madison (Erin Boothman, Maddie Leech)
Bronze - Women's keirin (Emma Finucane), men's omnium (Matt Bostock), men's madison (Logan Maclean, Will Perrett)

Not a bad return by anyone's standards and it should be noted that Erin Boothman in winning silver in her women's team pursuit was making her international track debut, so not only was that an achievement in itself, but there are high hopes surrounding the 18 year old Scottish talent.
