The men’s
Giro d’Italia is over, but there is still plenty of racing to enjoy this week. The
Women's edition of the Italian stage racing continues through the week. After the
opening stage controversy surrounding Lorena Wiebes' dismissal from the race, the riders head steadily towards the mountains to take on the mighty Finestre towards the end of the week.

Who is lining up at the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes?
Despite none of the 'big 3' taking part (Pogačar, Vingegaard, Evenepoel), all attention is on young superstar Paul Seixas as he prepares for his first Tour de France. The former Criterium du Dauphine has been the traditional warm up race for many past winners. Will it be the same for Seixas?
Why was Lorena Wiebes disqualified from the Women's Giro d'Italia?
Lorena Wiebes won the first stage of the Giro d’Italia Women on Saturday, but was later expelled from the race because
her bike was said to be too light. SD Worx-Protime decided to send Wiebes
home from the race rather than contest the decision immediately.
The team
issued a statement immediately after the disqualification. “SD Worx – Protime is astonished by the decision of the UCI jury panel that Lorena Wiebes’ bike did not meet the minimum weight limit after the first stage of the Giro d’Italia Women, in accordance with UCI article 2.12.007–2.2.
“According to the jury, the bike weighed 6.78 kilograms and therefore did not meet the UCI minimum weight requirement of 6.8 kilograms. The team has serious questions about the procedures for weighing the bikes during the Giro d’Italia Women,” the team said, describing the sanction as “extraordinarily severe”.
