Visma | Lease a Bike announced their
Amstel Gold Race squad on Friday
via X. The team has opted for a mix of cobbled Classics riders and hills specialists. Intended leader Louis Barré is not included, leaving the Dutch squad looking to
Matteo Jorgenson and
Ben Tulett to lead the team.
The original plan was for Jorgenson, Tulett and Barré to share the leadership across the hilly Classics. A messy winter, illness and an inflamed knee tendon wrecked those plans for Barré, who joined the team this summer from Intermarché-Wanty. The Frenchman made a strong impression in the 2025 Ardennes Classics — the very races he now has to miss.
Tulett's form is also uncertain. The British climber showed promise at the Tour of the Basque Country but was ultimately forced to
abandon with knee problems. Not welcome news just over a week before Amstel Gold.
Visma | Lease a Bike will therefore look primarily to Jorgenson, who has already proved this season that his legs are in good shape.
Jorgenson gets support from cobbled Classics squad
The American finished a fine second overall at Tirreno-Adriatico, with two stage podiums. Before that, he took second at the Faun Drôme Classic, fourth at the Faun-Ardèche Classic and eighth at Strade Bianche. He appears to be the team's best bet for a strong result on the Limburg hills. That is also why he skipped the Flemish Classics.
Jorgenson will be supported by a team of cobbled Classics specialists in the Ardennes.
Per Strand Hagenes,
Christophe Laporte and
Axel Zingle are all extending their spring by another week after racing
Paris-Roubaix last Sunday. Filippo Fiorelli and Menno Huising complete the team. The 22-year-old Huising will make his debut in the biggest race in the Netherlands.
