Lemmen and Barré tumble off Tour de Pologne podium for Visma | Lease a Bike as Tudor seals double victory

The final time trial of the Tour de Pologne was won by Tudor's Stefan Küng. Marco Brenner, riding for the same team, secured the overall victory with a strong time trial of his own. Bart Lemmen and Louis Barré, meanwhile, lost their places on the final podium for Visma | Lease a Bike.

The Tour de France Femmes was set for a thrilling finale, but things were every bit as tense in Poland. Louis Barré (Visma | Lease a Bike) won the penultimate stage, although his teammate Bart Lemmen had lost the overall race lead to Christian Scaroni (XDS Astana). The duo from the Dutch team finished just five seconds behind the Italian!

Early in the day, it was the turn of the time trial specialists, before the main contenders for the general classification headed down the start ramp. Ethan Hayter was one of the biggest names among the early starters, but he was unable to live up to expectations. Luxembourg's Arthur Kluckers (Tudor) instead set the fastest time, finishing ahead of riders including Artem Shmidt (Netcompany INEOS) and Mikkel Bjerg (UAE Team Emirates-XRG).

Sjoerd Bax (Pinarello-Q36.5) also slotted himself nicely into the standings, but somewhat surprisingly it was Callum Thornley (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) who managed to wipe Kluckers' time from the top of the leaderboard. It did not take long, however, before another Tudor rider occupied the hot seat, this time in the shape of Swiss time trial specialist Stefan Küng.

Küng kept the likes of Finn Fisher-Black (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) and Ivan Romeo (Movistar) behind him, while attention increasingly turned toward the battle for the overall victory. Lemmen, Barré and Scaroni kept things incredibly close, with only three seconds separating the trio at the first intermediate checkpoint.

Lemmen posted the 32nd-fastest time at the finish, while Barré recorded the 34th-fastest time and thus narrowly finished ahead of his teammate. Scaroni was unable to deliver, while Brenner certainly was. The German set the seventh-fastest time and secured overall victory in the Tour de Pologne, ahead of Fisher-Black and Romeo. Lemmen and Barré eventually finished fourth and fifth overall.
