It’s only May and we’re not even halfway through the cycling season, but the rumor mill is already in full swing. The transfer market officially opens on August 1, but there's already plenty of buzz about potential deals being made. Olav Kooij is reportedly heading for the exit, but the Visma | Lease a Bike sprinter isn’t the only rider considering a move.
Dylan Groenewegen also appears ready for a new challenge. The Dutch national champion is in his fourth season with Jayco–AlUla, but things have been far from smooth for the Amsterdam-born sprinter. The 31-year-old is still waiting on his first win of the season. A change of scenery may be the answer for Groenewegen, though that would leave the Australian team without a top sprinter. According to cycling journalist Daniel Benson, the team hopes to fill that gap with Sam Welsford. “The Australian from Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe is their dream signing, not least because of his nationality,” Benson reports.
Meanwhile, there’s also plenty of movement among the classics specialists. Benson reports that Stefan Küng will leave Groupama–FDJ after seven years of loyal service. The powerful Swiss rider is expected to take on a new adventure closer to home: Fabian Cancellara is said to be very keen on his countryman, and Küng has reportedly chosen to sign with Tudor, according to the British journalist. The team’s classics squad, which already includes Julian Alaphilippe, Matteo Trentin, and Marc Hirschi, would receive a major boost with his addition.

Lidl–Trek could lose both Stuyven and Hoole

Leaving your team after seven years isn’t easy, but Jasper Stuyven appears ready for a new challenge after spending 11(!) years with Lidl–Trek. The 33-year-old from Leuven, who recently finished fifth in the Tour of Flanders, is reportedly open to a fresh start in his career. Where he might be headed is still unknown. Daan Hoole also seems to be nearing the end of his time with the American squad. According to Daniel Benson, the Dutch national time trial champion is expected to strengthen the sprint train for Olav Kooij at Decathlon AG2R, should that transfer go through.
More transfer news involves UAE Team Emirates - XRG. Juan Sebastián Molano might be on his way out. The Colombian sprinter doesn’t have a contract for 2026 and is considering his options. Movistar and Intermarché–Wanty are reportedly interested in the fast man, according to Benson’s sources. Meanwhile, Luke Lamperti could also be on the move: the American rider from Soudal Quick-Step is possibly heading to EF Education–EasyPost.
