Tom Dumoulin may have stopped professional cycling for a while, but he still enjoys cycling. As a Giant ambassador he still travels the world. For example, these days he is in the United States to ride the prestigious gravel race Unbound, although the recon didn't go quite smoothly....

Dumoulin showed images on social media Friday from Kansas, where the gravel race is being held from Emporia. "It started very nicely," Dumoulin said. "But it ended very badly. I slipped in a corner," said the Dutchman with a photo in which he poses battered. In it we can see that he was hit on his left side and right hand.

Whether he will be able to start Saturday is not yet clear.
