Tadej Pogacar has taken the term 'flying' very seriously. The current world road champion often flies past his opponents in most of his races, but the Slovenian rider has now given the term another dimension.
The UAE Team Emirates-XRG star rider is currently at a high-altitude training camp in Sierra Nevada, where Pogacar is preparing for the Tour de France. During one of his training rides with his good friend Ziga Jerman, the UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider experienced some very special moments.
In the Spanish region, Pogacar and Jerman climbed the famous Pico Veleta, the highest point in the Sierra Nevada at 3,396 meters. "Flying to Pico Veleta," Pogacar captioned his Instagram reel. As seen in the images, the wind is blowing strongly towards the top of the long climb. Pogi can barely hold on to his bike as the wind blows it in all directions.

After a busy period, Pogacar is gearing up for Tour victory

The altitude training camp in southern Spain has only one goal for Pogacar: another Tour victory. This season, the Slovenian star has mainly made his mark in the Monuments, with victories in Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the Tour of Flanders, second place behind Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) in Paris-Roubaix, and third place in Milan-Sanremo. He also triumphed in Strade Bianche and the Flèche Wallonne and finished second in the Amstel Gold Race.
In the Tour, the 26-year-old will face two clear opponents, Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) and Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike). Pogacar will undoubtedly have already encountered the latter in recent weeks, as Vingegaard is also on altitude training in the Sierra Nevada. And he is not alone, as Thibau Nys (Lidl-Trek) is also spending a few weeks atop a mountain.
After the altitude training, Pogacar will also participate in the Criterium du Dauphiné, which starts on June 8, before starting the Tour de France.
