Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe may have made the transfer move of the year with Remco Evenepoel, but it also continues to build their team structurally with an eye on the future. That became clear again on Tuesday with the arrival of Haimar Etxeberria. The 22-year-old youngster arrives from Equipo Kern Pharma and is considered a talented rider.
"Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe continues to strategically strengthen its roster for the upcoming season and welcomes rising talent Haimar Etxeberria to the team," the Austrian-German formation announced its new acquisition. According to his new team, the 22-year-old Basque "has showcased his strong potential this season โ€“ particularly in one-day races and demanding sprint finishes."
It was his first pro victory that, according to Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, "highlighted he was ready for the next step in his career." The young Basque managed to win the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon, a Spanish 1.1 race, at the end of July. So with that he laid the foundation for a move to one of the biggest teams in the world.
"With Haimar, we are adding a rider who fits very well into our long-term vision," Chief of Sports Zak Dempster sounds pleased. "Of course, he is still in the early stages of his career, but his eagerness to learn and the talent that gives him real promise in one-day races and tougher sprint finals speak for themselves. We are confident he will find the ideal environment here to continue developing his potential."

"Itโ€™s a team Iโ€™ve followed closely since the era of Peter Sagan"

Those are words Etxeberria himself can relate to. "Iโ€™m very happy to join Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. From the first conversations, I felt a strong trust and a clear vision for how I can grow here. Iโ€™m motivated for this new chapter and excited to contribute to the project."
The youngster looked up to the BORA team since childhood. "Itโ€™s a team Iโ€™ve followed closely since the era of Peter Sagan. Being on a team alongside the best stars is a special feeling. Iโ€™m very grateful for the opportunity and for being able to make the step up to the WorldTour at 22 years old," said the young Basque.
Etxeberria is Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe's eighth newcomer. The formation already managed to sign Remco Evenepoel, while Mattia Cattaneo, Jarrad Drizners and Gianni Vermeersch were also recruited. From its own Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe Rookies, it is promoting Adrien Boichis, Callum Thornley and Luke Tuckwell this winter. So the team is already building quite a bit for the future.
