Richard Plugge experienced thriller Giro with Jumbo-Visma: "Smashed my coffee table in half"

Richard Plugge experienced thriller Giro with Jumbo-Visma: "Smashed my coffee table in half"

Another unforgettable Grand Tour for Jumbo-Visma. After winning the Vuelta a España multiple times with Primoz Roglic, and last year's Tour de France with Jonas Vingegaard, the team has now conquered the pink jersey once again.

However, it was no easy feat, as Jumbo-Visma's General Manager Richard Plugge knows all too well. "Everything comes together in this Giro, with setbacks beforehand when we had to start with a half-new team due to COVID-19. Primoz embodies our team spirit because of his resilience, strong mentality and relentless determination."

But that's not all. During a thrilling time trial, Roglic took over the pink leader's jersey from Geraint Thomas (INEOS Grenadiers), crowning himself as the winner of this Giro edition. However, even the time trial didn't go smoothly. The Slovenian came to a halt during his race against the clock when his chain fell off.

Plugge experienced that moment at home, as he revealed after the final stage. "I smashed my coffee table in half, but Primoz just kept going, and it all turned out fine," Plugge said on Eurosport. So, on Sunday, Plugge was present in Italy to see his team standing on the podium with the pink jersey on Roglic's shoulders.
