Tadej Pogačar updates his fans with a video of him cycling again: 'At least we have good company'

Guess who's back, back again? Tadej Pogačar has posted a series of photos and videos on his Instagram channel documenting his road to recovery after crashing out of the 2026 Vuelta a España. The Slovenian World Champion posted a montage of photos from his hospital visit and surgery alongside videos of him riding on Zwift. While some of the images are tough to look at, his progress will make cycling fans everywhere smile.

Alongside training on Zwift, Pogačar also shows pictures of his partner Urska Zigart, who also suffered a crash recently. "Not quite how we planned to spend September." read the caption on Pogačar's post, "At least we have good company. A big thank you to our teams, families, friends and all of you for the amazing support. We are very grateful 🫶"

Slovenia will host its first major road cycling championship, the European Championships, in Ljubljana in October, but the event will miss its planned headliners. Defending European champion Tadej Pogačar is out for the season after injuries from a Vuelta a España crash, and Urška Zigart is likely done for the year after refracturing her jaw at the Faun Tour Femmes.

The course, designed to suit Pogačar with the steep Možjanca climb, had been expected to echo his dominant 2025 win. With Zigart also absent from both the European and World Championships, Primož Roglič becomes Slovenia’s main home hope following his second place at the Vuelta.

Despite the setbacks, the championships will proceed from October 2–7, featuring more than 40 nations and around 800 athletes, with routes across the Gorenjska region and all finishes in Šenčur. Read more. The question of who will succeed Pogačar as men's World Champion is the one being asked now.
