Nys suffered a hard crash in that Swiss one-day race - traditionally a preparation event for many riders for the Tour of Switzerland. He ended up with a swollen calf and was clearly not himself in the first two days of the Tour of Switzerland. On day three, however, he came back strong, delivering a powerful punch that left everyone behind. "A lot is going through my mind," says Nys with tears in his eyes in the flash interview. "It's so beautiful to show the good form from the last few weeks again. I've been dreaming of this stage for a long time. I was so disappointed after the crash in Gippingen because I was so close to winning there. From that race to the hotel, we did the reconnaissance for this stage to help get my head back in the right place, and it worked."

Nys didn't feel well, but still won
With a large bruise on his right calf, Nys rode around Switzerland, and physically, he didn't feel great, according to his own words. "Yesterday, I was really struggling, and today, too. I didn't feel good on the bike, a very annoying feeling. The guys dragged me through it, and that's when I started to believe. I have no words for it." Or as he said in the mixed zone afterwards: "This is my most beautiful victory of my career, especially after that crash and the past few days. As a top athlete, moments like these can make you lose confidence and think more about what could go wrong. That I can finish it like this now is a dream."
With a stage win in the Tour de Romandie and his strong performance in the Grosser Preis des Kantons Aargau, we can say that Nys and Switzerland are a good match. "It seems that I always perform in Switzerland, with its beautiful roads and courses. I'd like to keep that up in the coming years, but for now, I can't describe how this feels and what it means."
