Tim Merlier’s celebratory gesture in the final stage of the Eneco Tour was no coincidence: the Belgian thanked his Specialized bike profusely, knowing that on Tuesday the news would break that the manufacturer was parting ways with Soudal Quick-Step after many years. Merida is stepping in as the new partner.

Soudal Quick-Step announced end of partnership with Specialized

"After nearly twenty years of collaboration, one of the longest-running and most successful partnerships in professional cycling between Soudal Quick-Step and Specialized will come to an end in late 2026," the team said. "Together, we have worked to push the boundaries of performance and innovation, and built a relationship based on trust, collaboration, and a shared passion for cycling."

Merida will be the Belgian team's new bicycle sponsor. Continental will supply the tires, while Prologo (saddles), Sidi (shoes), and Lazer (helmets) will also join the team.

Expertise will work together at the team

"We've been working on this project for over a year, because decisions about technical partners have a direct impact on our riders' performance. We wanted to examine every component of our equipment package and understand where we could make improvements, while at the same time building on the strong relationships we already have,” says CEO Jurgen Foré.
"What excites me the most is not just the individual products our riders will use, but above all the expertise that each of these companies brings to our teams. We want our technical partners to work closely with our riders and performance staff, sharing knowledge, data, and ideas so that we can continue to develop together."

Vansevenant leaves Soudal Quick-Step after 7 years

There was also a transfer to report among the riders. Mauri Vansevenant is leaving the team after seven years to join Lotto-Intermarché, where his father, Wim, also rode for many years. “Lotto-Intermarché is a team with such a rich history. It has produced countless talented riders and team leaders over the years. To me, that’s the best proof that they’re doing a great job.”

"And I'd love to be part of that team. This is where I see my future. Just as much as I believe in the project, I also believe in the team’s character. Not the big, crowded kind, but the close-knit, family-like one. I’ve already seen during the season that the atmosphere is great, and I know that’s when I can really get the most out of myself,” said the Belgian puncher.
"I believe that a stage victory in a Grand Tour is still within my reach. And, of course, the Walloon classics are also a priority for me. The Amstel Gold Race, Liège–Bastogne–Liège… Along with the Tour of the Basque Country and other races of that caliber. I still hope to do well in those races.”
