For Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Stage 3 of the Vuelta a España proved too tough on the run-in to Ceres. The winner of the opening stage had to let the peloton go in the final kilometers. Tuesday presents another half-chance, with 3,000 meters of elevation gain en route to Voiron. “I knew it was going to be a really tough stage, and it definitely was,” Philipsen told Eurosport after the third stage. “I didn’t have good legs, but it was also just a very hard day.” The Belgian knows Tuesday won't be easy either. “It depends on how the peloton rides, but we’ll see. We have to try, but in the end, the peloton decides.”

Vingegaard doesn't necessarily need to keep the red jersey

Jonas Vingegaard made it clear that Visma | Lease a Bike won't go all-in to control Stage 4 of the Vuelta. “I don’t need to keep the jersey,” said Vingegaard, “but I’m not just going to hand it over to another GC contender either. If a breakaway rider takes it, I don’t really mind.”
After winning stage 2 and finishing third on Stage 3, Vingegaard also
took over the green jersey from Jasper Philipsen.
