Lauren Dickson, the 26-year-old Brit who rides for FDJ-United Suez, will compete this afternoon in the Elite Women's European Time Trial Championships. She has had a bit of a mixed year in her debut WorldTour season, crashing in the Tour de Suisse and Tour of Britain, but also enjoying success. She came 18th in the World Championship in Montréal, and most recently placed third at the Giro dell'Emilia. But she is not resting, and has a major goal to look ahead to.

Runner turned triathlete turned cyclist, what next on this incredible journey?

Dickson, who is from Edinburgh, began her athletic journey as a junior runner, before an injury in 2019 led her to compete in duathlon and triathlon. She found success there, "I came through a British Triathlon Performance Centre, and right from 16 I was on a British athletics feature programme, a talent course," she explained.

She had always enjoyed cycling, saying it was always her "favourite part of the training for triathlon," but it wasn't until Australian rider Anya Louw commented on her impressive numbers that she considered the switch over.
Louw was living with Dickson's husband, pro rider Sean Flynn at the time, and the three were training together when the Australian noticed Dickson's impressive stats. "I started to do it and started to realise, actually, yeah, it's really fun," Dickson told Cycling Weekly.

Olympic year is looming on the horizon for Dickson

Dickson, who says her season with FDJ-United Suez has taught her more than could have anticipated, is looking forward to 2028, and the Olympics in Los Angeles.
Being exposed to, and training with the highest ranking cyclists in the game has been transformative for Dickson's mindset. "If you learn from the best, it's the best way to do it, and I really think it's true," she said.
"You're really ambitious and you know what your end goal is, and you really focus on having a plan to get there."
So Dickson, who will be racing in the European Championship time trial in Slovenia is not afraid of ambitious goals. "In cycling, a lot of things can happen, so you make most of everything. Setting my sights on LA would be a huge dream."

"It's really ambitious, but I guess I'm working towards that,” she revealed. "I'm really trying to focus on the road and the time trial. It's something that we're going to invest in over the winter this year.
