🎥 Endless bad luck for Visma | Lease a Bike: Laporte takes hard fall in Giro after overlooking pothole

Bad news for Visma | Lease a Bike, yet again. European champion Christophe Laporte has taken a hard fall during the fifth stage of the Giro d'Italia. The Frenchman had just completed his sprint preparation during an intermediate sprint, after which he failed to see a pothole while talking to an Alpecin-Deceuninck rider. The result: a hard crash onto the asphalt.

As you can see from the footage below, Laporte was riding fairly calmly behind the sprinters towards the intermediate sprint. He wanted to say something to an Alpecin-Deceuninck colleague just as he hit a pothole.

At that moment, the Frenchman was holding his handlebars tightly and slammed hard into the Italian asphalt, where he sat dazed for a while. Initially, he held his ankle, then after checking his abrasions, he continued on his way.

Regardless, this is a tough blow for Visma | Lease a Bike and Kooij, who rely on Laporte's services in the sprint stages. On Tuesday, he performed a perfect lead-out for Kooij, who also fell on his knee in this Giro.
